A Tiny Shift Practice

A 30-Second Practice to Relieve Hidden Stress

For the moment you realize your shoulders have been up around your ears all morning.

When to use it

Use it when you catch tension you did not notice building: in a meeting, in traffic, between tasks.

The practice

  1. 1. Let your shoulders drop on an exhale. No fixing, just noticing.
  2. 2. Unclench your jaw and let your tongue rest away from the roof of your mouth.
  3. 3. Take one slow breath, in for a count of four, out for a count of six.
  4. 4. Ask yourself quietly: what do I need right now? Let the first honest answer be enough.

About 30 seconds. No equipment, no quiet room required.

The idea behind it

Tension builds below awareness, so the first rep is noticing. A longer exhale sends a safety signal to the nervous system, and naming what you need gives you back a moment of choice. Small reps like this are how patterns change.
